Vincent B. Miret Sr.

1847–1899

Progenitor of 20th Century New Orleans cocktail culture; co-created and popularized the Sazerac Cocktail as it is now known

Vincent Miret, a Catalan immigrant from Barcelona, was a noted bartender and member of the sporting set. Miret tended Tom Handy’s influential Sazerac House with Billy Wilkinson in the 1890s, where they achieved renown for their house whiskey cocktails (Sazeracs) and other drinks. Miret is buried at Saint Vincent de Paul Cemetery #2 (Piety Street) in New Orleans.
