Pedro Chicote Serrano

1899–1977

Most famous bartender of mid-Century Spain

Pedro Chicote began working in a bar as an orphan at age eight. Eventually, in 1931, he was able to open his own Bar Chicote, where he would preside for the rest of his career. Chicote was another bartender and bar owner adept at marketing and self-promotion, and enjoyed thirty years as the highest profile mixologist in Spain. In addition to writing several cocktail books over the years, Chicote added the Museo Chicote to the basement of his bar in the 1940s, and in 1964, founded the Asociación de Barmans Españoles (ABE).
